Show and Tell Tuesday: Resolutions and Goals for 2015

Happy Tuesday morning friends! I’m linking up with Andrea today for a little Tuesday Show & Tell, and sharing my resolutions and goals for 2015, so lets get to it!
1.) I know that it’s cliche to do a “new year, new you” kind of resolution but that’s where I’m going with number one: no soda for a year (and beyond). Several years ago I cut out soda completely and it was the best I’ve felt in a long time, so this year I’m resolving to drink mostly water with the occasional tea (iced and hot).

2.) Blog more consistently – and thanks to Andrea and her Show and Tell series I think that might just happen! I plan on linking up for the Show and Tells that I am able to answer – this is one of those times where I feel weird knowing that I read a lot of these parenting blogs even though I’m not a parent…I found Andrea through Shay at Mix and Match Mama and have since fallen in love with both blogs. I love how deeply rooted they both are in their faith and I am so encouraged by their posts even though right now in this phase of my life I’m not a mom. I love the daily encouragement from these wonderful Godly woman!

3.) Read more. I read quite a bit but with school and work and writing….and more excuses that I could give you but won’t, I didn’t read nearly as much this year as I would have liked. With the start of my winter semester today I had the opportunity to look over the course calendar and this class has a fairly lite work load which is WONDERFUL! I’ve got two books started right now, Anthony Doerr’s All the Light We Cannot See and Stephen W. Sears’ Gettysburg.

I am absolutely loving both right now!
4.) Finally, I resolve to take the leap that I’ve been so scared of for so long and Just put my book out there, finally push the button and publish! I have about five chapters left to edit, then the changes need to be made in the actual manuscript and then I will be ready. I think my own fear and insecurity is what’s been holding my back and I’ve been passing it off as ‘procrastination’ but that is all going to change! New year, New year can mean more than getting healthier for me it also means letting go of anxiety and insecurity and this is step one in doing that. Have a sneak peek….
It’s really scary knowing that in a few weeks this book will go from being an idea in my head and words on a computer screen to something that the general public – strangers – can hold in their hand and read…and review…and critique…but I need to forget about that and just get it finished!
Happy New Year dear readers, thank you for sticking with this little blog even when it seems like I’ve given up!
Blessings to you all this new year,
Megan

7 Quick Takes: 5/24/13

Happy Friday!! It is so good to be home! I know I said that last week, but it’s been a glorious week at home! I was able to get back to work, and things are semi-normal around here. So, lets get to it shall we?

We shall,

1.) Please pray for my sweet mama, she and dad spent about 6 1/2 hours in the ER on Saturday after just getting home from vacation. Turns out mom has an enlarged/enflamed gall bladder, and it causes her some pretty severe pain. We think that dairy is her trigger food, so the ice cream we had Saturday night may be what sent her to the hospital. She also has some gall stones that they can’t really do much about…but praise the Lord she’s gone a week without an attack!

2.) My prayers go out to the folks in Oklahoma. What devastation, and heartbreak as they try to locate loved ones, and pick up the pieces. I can’t even begin to imagine what the mix of emotions must be. We were out to dinner Monday night, our whole church staff that is, and one of our pastors was on the phone trying to contact his family….in Moore Oklahoma. All through dinner and dessert he kept calling to find out how they are doing, they are doing fine, their homes are okay and they are safe. A friend of mine has a brother in law and sister in law in Moore, and they lost everything they own. That shows you how unpredictable these storms can be, and how powerful they are…but our God is greater. He will provide, He can comfort, and He gives peace.

3.) One of the best parts of my job, is getting in contact with parents to let them know that their children have received scholarships for church camp. The parents are always SO SO SO excited to finally send their kids to camp, and it really just makes my day! I e-mailed them all today to let them know, and even though I didn’t have anything to do with the approval of their applications, I’ve been getting thank you e-mails in return, from some crazy happy people! It makes my day to know that these kids get to go to camp, and their parents don’t have to worry about the financial burden. I seriously LOVE my job!

4.) I found some waste canvas this week at the craft store and let me tell you, I was pretty excited! Do you know what this means?! I can embroider on my quilt now! You know I’m doing the bookshelf quilt…..? Well, now I can embroider titles, flowers, golden snitch(es), sorting hats, Mockingjays, a colonial house, a french flag….the possibilities are endless, but I also just increased my workload. It’s totally worth it!

5.) I’m running out of things to say, so here is another picture from my trip to Disney

This is me with Lady Tremain, Drizella, and Anastasia. They are better known as Cinderella’s step mother and step sisters. Let me tell you, they are freakin’ hilarious! They interact so well with the crowd. If you are planning a trip to Disney and you find yourself in Magic Kingdom make it a point to meet these three. They are wonderful, you will have so much fun interacting with them!

6.) In one of my posts I talked about how I was going to use a Smash Book as my vacation scrapbook, remember?? No, that’s okay. I talked about it, and that is what I ended up doing. I even took the book with me so I could work on it on the road. I also took it into the park with me and used it as an autograph book. It worked out great. I was able to just add my pictures when I got home, and now I have a complete scrapbook. I’ll do a post on it soon, I promise!

7.) Another picture:

I seriously LOVE the Smash Book, I was able to work on it in the car. Yes, IN. THE. CAR! I didn’t do any of the writing in the car, but adding maps, and brochures, and other odds and ends was really easy to do in the car….and the hotel….and the boardwalk….and Downtown Disney….you get the idea. It travels well, and you can work on it wherever and whenever you like! I even went back to the craft store and bought another one for my next trip!
Go see Jen @ Conversion Diary for more QT’s, and enjoy your weekend!!
Blessings,
Megan

7 Quick Takes: 5/3/13

It’s Friday!! This may be a quick, rambly post this week. I have had a chest cold/sinus infection/case of death  this week….and it really knocked me around. Instead of complaining, how about I get right to the takes?

1.) I tend to over buy when I get sick….cough drops, teas, kleenex, anything with “multi-symptom” on the box. I won’t take asprin for a headache, but if I’m SICK like this I will buy whatever I think I “need”.

Four bags of cough drops….a little excessive in retrospect….entirely necessary when you feel like death.
2.) I’m just starting to get to the point where there is less pressure in my chest, but now it’s all in my sinuses which I think is worse….but that’s enough complaining for me!
3.) Say a prayer for me this weekend. I will be babysitting from Today to Sunday for three awesome boys at my church. I babysit these guys pretty regularly but a full weekend is a new experience for all of us! Usually I watch them for a couple of hours while their mom and dad go to dinner….never for this long all at once! It should be interesting!
4.) I also have an unspoken prayer request, and at the risk of sounding cryptic I would just ask that you pray that God’s Will be done in my life, and in our church. Thanks so much!
5.) Spring has finally sprung! My windows are open, the birds are singing, and flowers are in bloom! My small group was able to meet outside on our patio on Wednesday, and we could all finally enjoy the fresh spring air!
6.) I may have over-glamorized things by calling it a small group….which technically it is (just not church sanctioned). It’s really just a group of ladies all from our church, of all ages, married, single, with kids, without kids….all of us sharing a common bond: Yarn. That’s right, we all knit/crochet. It is a great time of fellowship, so we call it a small group, it’s just not recognized as one! We love it! The kids play outside, we fellowship together, sharing new projects and patterns, laughing, talking over one another….it’s just plain fun!
7.) This will be my last QT post for a few weeks. I will be going radio silent for a short time….again I hate to sound cryptic but I promise I’ll explain better later this week before I unplug, and definitely check back around the 20th for full explanation!!
Enjoy your weekend everybody, and thank you for stopping by! Head on over to Conversion Diary and check out all of the other QT’s from this week!
Blessings,
Megan

7 Quick Takes: 3/22/13

Happy Firday! I love, love, love Friday’s! For me, it is the end of the work week, and gives me plenty of time to hang out with my family. Friday also means it’s time for another installment of Quick Takes! I’m joining Jen over at Conversion Diary, let’s get to it!

1.) Last Saturday night my whole extended family (on dad’s side) got together to celebrate my Great Grandmother’s 94th birthday.

Four generations: Great Grandma, Grandma, Dad, Myself, and my Cousins. This picture should actually include a few more grandkids and great grand kids however they were not in attendance.
2.) I would like to ask you to please pray for my Great Grandma, as I said she is (now) 94 years old, her health is failing. We are aware that at her age it’s pretty normal for her health and memory to be slowly declining, however the decline has NOT been slow. From week to week she seems to just get worse. If you would please pray for her, and the family as we try to help her….it would be very much appreciated!
3.) It’s NCAA Tournament time, which means that for the office and family I’ve filled out brackets. Mine never really seem to go very far….so this year (because ESPN lets you make up to ten) I’ve done 9. Hopefully at least ONE of them will make it to the end!
4.) NCAA Tournament time in this house means that basketball is on all day. ALL DAY!!! There is no escaping it, however today I plan to take four (or more) hours and sit down and watch Les Miserables. (Released TODAY on DVD!!!) complete with popcorn and snacks, and a full box of tissue!
5.) Even though Wednesday was the first day of spring, it is still snowing like crazy here! I almost can’t believe that it really is March! I am ready for the Florida trip! I know it’s still months away, but I would love to move it up because this snow is killing me!
6.) I’m still working on the parenting interview, and I’m loving the research aspect of Psychology! It has been so much fun gathering information, and conducting interviews. Now, I have to find a way to put it all into a paper…..the not so fun part…..
7.) This week is Palm Sunday…..the day that we celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. It is also the start of Holy Week. Thursday, we are having our Maundy Thursday service. There is something so striking about this service. We have a partial orchestra, and a full choir. It is a candle lit service, one by one, as each scripture is read, and each song is sung a candle will be extinguished….we share communion, and after the final prayer a lone trumpeter plays were you there. The sound of the horn rings out almost eerily in the completely dark sanctuary. The congregation leaves in absolute silence. Silence is loud, very, very loud. This was the night of the last supper, the night Jesus was betrayed. Friday, we have no service. Friday (Good Friday) is a day of contemplation….something that I will share with you all next Friday! I love Holy Week. I love the services that I get to be a part of…..I love what Jesus did for me on the cross, dying for my sins!
Blessings to you as we enter into this coming week. It’s not about the bunnies and the candy….though I do love a good marshmallow Peep, it’s about the Cross, and the sacrifice, the grace and salvation we do not deserve but are granted anyway.

7 Quick Takes: 1/4/13

Linking up for another Quick takes post….Jen, the usual host, has recently been hospitalized…please keep her in your prayers!

Instead of linking up at Conversion Diary, the link up is taking place at Moxie Wife

So, let’s get to it, shall we?!

1.) For the life of me I have not been able to write 2013 on anything these last few days! Sometimes I can start the year off remembering to write the new year, and some years I can go until February writing the old year. The way things are going now, I have a feeling I’ll be writing 2012 for a while….but hey at least I remembered it for this post!

2.) On New Year’s Eve, we had some friends over for dinner, and played some games, and by 10:30 I was zonked out in bed….in my defense, it had been a long weekend and I haven’t been sleeping well….I did wake up briefly to (what I hope was) the sound of fireworks being set off a few houses down….yeah, happy new year to you too buddy!!

3.) New Year’s Day, we go to a friend’s house, where they host sometimes up to 30 people; and the men watched football, the women sit around and  knit/crochet/cross stitch/eat for the whole day.

4.) My Wolverines offered up nothing but disappointment…..once again.

5.) I was back to work on Wednesday, and enjoyed being back. I like having a break, but I also like my schedule, and structure, and it’s nice to get back to that. I’m starting my winter (most of spring) semester in about a week and am really looking forward to it.

6.) From January 18 -20 I will be a college sponsor on our church youth group’s annual discipleship retreat. If you think about it between now and then please pray…

pray for:

  • The Students; Grades 7-12
  • The Sponsors; College Students
  • The Host Families; Brave men and women opening their homes to us
  • and last but not least, our youth pastors who have worked so hard to plan this weekend, and make it a wonderful worship experience for these kids.

Most importantly, pray for God’s presence, and for the kids to just open themselves up to the amazing things that God can do in their lives. I will let you all know how the weekend goes after it’s over….look for that post in a few weeks.

7.) I will be leading the 8th grade girls for that weekend….I was one ( a long time ago) and I know how they can be, so please pray for me to be able to offer them some guidance, pray for the family opening their home to us, and pray for the girls. Please just keep that weekend in your prayers. I remember being a student years ago, and having my life changed on this retreat, I know that if we open ourselves to the Lord he can do great things. I’m really looking forward to being on the other side of things, as a leader to these kids! I’m so excited to see what God has in store for all of us!

Happy New Year to you all!
Blessings,

Megan

7 Quick Takes: 12/28/12

So here we are, another Friday…another installment of Quick Takes. I will be joining Jen at Conversion Diary. So, without further ado… Quick Takes:

1.) On Sunday our church choir went to Crossroads Village; a park here in Michigan, that transports you back in time to old grist mills, one room school houses, and steam locomotives. Our choir sings in the small wooden church, that is still heated by wood stove, and we sang for a crowd that filled the eight rows of pews, all of the standing room, and wound out the door into the small courtyard. I love to wander thought the general store, and just see the town…in the winter, and decorated for Christmas, it’s like a different time….a simpler time… I LOVE it!!!

2.) Ten years (or so) ago, we moved my great grandma into a new apartment, when we did my dad inherited her box of 8mm films….lots and lots, and LOTS of them. So, for Christmas we had them converted to DVD’s for dad, his brother and sister, and my grandma. We were all together on Christmas morning, and after these were opened, we watches them. There was no sound, just some stock music in the background, but we laughed and cried, and laughed till we cried! Never imy life have I laughed like that. It was so fun to see dad and his brother and sister watching these, seeing them as kids, with their dad and mom. It was evemore fun for my cousins and I to see our prents at that age…and just how much we take after them!
3.) I have been enjoying my Christmas gifts these past few days, especially my teapot,  there is nothing better than a good cup of tea. I love brewing loose leaf, so I love that the teapot came with multiple pouches of loose tea. I have ver much been enjoying chinese green tea, with a little honey and lemon, you have the perfect cup of tea!

4.) I have just started reading Mr. Penumbra’s 24 Hour Bookstore, so far I am not far enough through it yet to really say much, but check back in a few weeks for my review of what is turning out to be a very intriguing book.

5.) Working two days this week, and heading up to Frankenmuth this weekend. Frankenmuth, Michigan ( as I have told you before), is a piece of Germany, in northern Michigan. We will be heading up for some post Christmas shopping, and lunch as a family before we start back to work and school next week. I’m looking forward to some more family time.

6.) The homemade Christmas gifts were a hit, and I am so glad.the calluses, pricked fingers, and nights of staying up until three in the morning were totally worth it!

7.) Today, I am spending the day with my cousin. We will spend the day watching Disney Princess movies, making homemade pizzas, and playing board games…. A girls day, and I am so excited!
I hope you all have a great, relaxing weekend.
Blessings,
Megan

Phone Dump: 12/9/12

It’s phone dump time!! Here are the gems from my Instagram feed this week…..

1.) I brought my work home with me this week….1,400 communication cards to put into the computer following a concert at church.

Getting ready to sing the Messiah!
Cupcakes for the Choir and Orchestra Lunch Rehearsal this afternoon! Yum!!
This weeks phone dump was honestly, quite pathetic….if I’m only going to get three or four a week I might rethink a weekly phone dump, and just wait until I have a bunch…We’ll see.
Finals start this week and carry on into the next so you may not here from me for a while. I’m crawling into my finals week cave and not coming out ’til they’re done! I might try to sneak in a quick “Quick Takes” post, and possibly a commentary on the cruelty of two weeks of finals….I’ll also keep you posted on the transfer process (so far so good!)…it’s going to be a long two weeks, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and Christmas break is calling my name!!

Blessings,

Megan
