Help! I’ve fallen…

…into the (seemingly) never-ending pit that is EDITING…and REVISING…and REWRITING…and STARTING A NEW PROJECT……!!!!

Okay, so let me break that down for you.

Editing/Revising/Rewriting – Books one and two of the Love and Baseball Series: The Unwritten Rules and Stealing Home. Now technically I’m still writing book two, Stealing Home, but I am in the pre-production stages with The Unwritten Rules. Hopefully I will have The Unwritten Rules ready to go in January but I will keep you posted because my intended release date was a month ago…oops.

Starting a new project….I am still planning a third book for Love and Baseball however I am going to take a short break between books two and three to tackle an entirely new project…in a very new-to-me genre. I’ve always been a big history buff – thanks in large part to my dad – and one area of history that I have always been fascinated by and have studied quite extensively from middle school and beyond is the civil war. I’ve been planning a historical fiction novel almost since NaNoWriMo ended last month – I have a notebook full of research and don’t even get me started on the desktop sticky notes (you know the ones on a Windows PC): I have them color coded for each book I’m writing – Green for Love and Baseball books 1-3, yellow for the Civil War novel that still has no title, and pink for random thoughts for other possible stories….my desktop is a hot mess, but a color coded one : )

I’ve finished reading The Ripple Affair – expect a full review soon….but between now and the time I post a review go check it out…you won’t regret it – call it a stocking stuffer!

Thank you readers, for sticking with me even when I take super long annoying breaks from blogging. My fall semester is finally over, my books are (finally) winding down, and I have a nice little break between now and January to work on blogging consistently and finally publishing.

Merry Christmas!

7 Quick Takes: Making Lemonade from Lemons

Good morning and happy Saturday to you! Just a quick note, if any of you are planning on heading to a senate meeting today….Beware, the Ides of March!

Normally I try to get my Quick Takes posted on Friday but yesterday was a bit busy for my family; We spent 14 hours at our church catering an event. I didn’t have time to write my post on Thursday because of all the prep work that needed to be done, so here I am on Saturday. I’m currently writing this post from the Library in my church, because around 7:30 this morning power got knocked out for our entire area. My mom is in book club down the hall, while I’m blogging, studying, and writing…lemonade from lemons!

1.) I’m finally getting over the cold that struck me down  at the beginning of the week. Tuesday I came to work and started feeling gross, so because I work at the church in the office and nursery I know where to find what I need. I headed to the nursery area to find a thermometer…I was running a low grade fever; I checked again every hour and it still hadn’t broken, but I pushed on with my work because that was the ONLY symptom I had of being sick at all. When I got home that afternoon my head felt like it was going to explode, and my nose was stuffy… is finally on its way out…Praise the Lord!!

2.) Normally I could have stayed home to work today, but my computer wont work unless it’s plugged in. My battery needs to be replaced and I’m cheap so that won’t be happening any time soon. It’s really nice though, sitting alone in a quiet library (a dream I’ve had since I was a kid but the Library in my dream was the one in Beast’s Castle, you know the one….Floor to ceiling books surrounding the room), just me and my thoughts and my writing. I love libraries….I always thought that it would be cool to be a librarian; run my own library, help kids learn to read…and learn to love it! Odd fact for the day: I am actually trained to run a library. I don’t have formal training, it’s more of an apprenticeship, but I can step in and shelve books, check them out to people, return them, and code them for filing….

3.) I found an article this week on Pinterest that I want to share with everyone who knows me….something that I can just hand off when I first meet so that they can understand me a little bit better. 23 Signs that You’re Secretly an Introvert…..except in my case it is no secret. If you met me, you’d never know it; I don’t fall into the stereotypes that society applies to introverts. I’m not shy, quite, or anti-social. I don’t sit alone at parties, I make an effort to meet new people….I do all those things, but here’s the kicker: It’s exhausting! I come home so physically drained from parties, potlucks, and picnics; I love being with people, and talking to people but where an extrovert would be energized by that, it drains my energy….I wish I could explain that to people when I leave a party early, or when I’m so exhausted from a Sunday morning at church that I don’t go back for the evening service. Look at that…another odd fact about me!
4.) I do have a confession to make…I’m writing this post right now as a way to avoid my writing. I need to be writing, but right now I’ve got such bad writer’s block that I honestly can’t do anything……I should be though….I should be writing.

..Because I have writer’s block….and I had a blog post to write….and……and……

Okay, fine! I will….as soon as I finish this post!

5.) Tonight our family will all be getting together to celebrate my amazing Great-Grandma’s 95th birthday! She is such a cool lady, and I love being able to spend time with her….physically she is still doing great, but her mental faculties aren’t all there anymore… is always so much fun to spend time with her!!

6.) Okay, here’s another odd fact about me….I’m a terrible decision maker. I can’t make a decision to save my life! I’m going to be repainting my bedroom, and I posted this picture to Instagram and Facebook this week.

I picked up paint chips at Home Depot last Saturday and taped them to my wall. I told in the picture that I am terrible at making decisions and Facebook friends rock! Bless their collective hearts! With their input I was able to finally make a decision and I will begin painting on Monday! Now if they could help me decide where to go for my birthday lunch with the staff at work that’d be great!
7.) If you made it this far I applaud you! Now head over to Conversion Diary to read more (better) Quick Takes!

Failure and An Accomplishment

It was ambitious of me to think that I could write 7 Posts in 7 Days, but I joined the challenge anyway and did very well. I ended up writing 5 posts but I had my reasons for missing Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday night we had a family game night over at my grandma’s house. My parents and I, my mom’s brothers, sister, their spouses, and my grandma all had dinner together and spent the night playing cards, and tabletop board games. We got lots of snow again that night (because this is the land of the eternal winter) and by the time we got home I was pretty exhausted so I showered and went right to bed.

Sunday I was going to post so that I’d at least have 6 posts in 7 days but I started writing for my book, and I was on a roll and didn’t stop until I fell asleep with my computer in my lap that afternoon. By the time I woke up it was time to head back to church to help coach our Children’s Bible Quizzing team, evening service, and going to a friend’s house after service for snacks and fellowship.

I may have failed the 7 in 7 challenge but I did accomplish something this weekend. I wrote an entire chapter for my book! My first complete chapter! I’m so excited that was finally able to get a chapter finished. I may not have 100 pages under my belt or 100,000 words or even a title that I like but I do have one complete chapter. It may not sound like much but to me this is a pretty big accomplishment for the weekend! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and have a great week ahead of you!

7 Quick Takes: 2/28/14

Tomorrow is March 1st…you’d never know it by looking out my window at the snow, but spring is (finally) in its way! Today is Friday so that means it’s time for another Quick Takes post!

1.) I joined Jen’s 7 in 7 challenge and have actually done a good job keeping up with it each day; you can check out the list of other bloggers that are doing the challenge here.

2.) Spring training has begun, baseball alerts are coming to my phone every day, and opening day is at the end of March….hopefully the snow will be gone by then.

3.) Speaking of snow Michigan is supposed to be getting even more this weekend and at this point we have nowhere to put it. We have drifts that can be measured in feet, and a driveway that gets narrower and narrower each time we shovel…guys, if it snows again I might lose my mind!!

4.) My friend Britt lent me DVDs of The BBC series Robin Hood….I’m hooked! What an awesome show!!

5.) I’m sorry for the brevity of my takes today but I’m writing this post from my phone while sitting down and catching up on Scandal. My grandmother is on her way over here for dinner, we’ve cleaned, baked, set the table, and dinner is in the oven. I’m making this an incredibly quick Quick Takes because she’ll be here in about an hour.

6.) I haven’t mentioned it yet, but read several recaps and wrap up posts…Downton Abbey was great this season! I’m sad to see another season end but it gives me something to look forward to for next season.

7.) Once again, I’m sorry for the brevity…I’m linked up at Conversion Diary as always. Head over there for more Quick Takes!

Have a great weekend!

7 Quick Takes: About Sound of Music Live!, Dead week, and Children’s Musicals

Happy Friday (though, it may be Saturday by the time I publish this)! I hope you all had a great week! I’m just going to get to the takes today and hopefully I’ll be back to a regular posting schedule when things settle down a bit here…….so January!

1.) The Sound of Music Live was amazing! That is my opinion and here are a few things I’d like to clear up:
Yes, Julie Andrews made the role of Maria famous, but she was not the original Maria. Carrie Underwood did the role justice! The move was adapted from the Broadway show, what was broadcast live to us was a version of the Broadway show NOT the movie. There was no editing, sound mixing, or scene cuts….it was LIVE! That is such and undertaking and on national television to boot! Again I say, it was AMAZING, The Sound of Music will forever be one of My Favorite Things!

2.) It’s dead week….that is, the week before finals…need I say more? I’m running on coffee, coffee, and more coffee.

3.) Saturday is the dress rehearsal for our children’s musical, The Great Christmas Giveaway! I am playing the adult lead in the show….I haven’t done anything like this since about the sixth grade, it’s been fun to jump back into it again.

4.) Sunday we are performing…..months of work all coming down to one performance! I have really enjoyed working with these amazing kids, and being able to present the story of Christmas to the congregation is such an awesome opportunity!

5.) Right now, as I type, there are 18 days until Christmas! 18!! Is it just me or did November and December just fly right on by!?!

6.) My brain is fried, so instead of a 6th take I’m just going to show you a picture….this is me 20 years ago celebrating my first Christmas

7.) I’m linking up with Jen like always! Head on over to check out Takes that are decidedly much better than mine!
Have an awesome weekend!
Merry Christmas!

Back to School; 7 Quick Takes

Happy Friday, and Happy Back-to-School!! I’ve been slacking recently in my posting, I apologize for that! School started this week, and I am so happy with my decision to switch schools, and majors. I can already tell that this year is going to be fantastic! As for this post pulling double duty, it is 1.) Meant to wish you all a Happy back to school, and 2.) 7 Quick takes. I’m doing another themed 7QT hope you don’t mind : )

1.) I am officially a student of The University of Michigan (Flint). I love the campus! I have a free gym membership to the rec center on campus, there is a lovely little cafe within walking distance, and best of all…. I have friends on this campus. People that I’ve known for years and years. More than anything I’m excited to know people on campus!

2.) I mentioned the free gym membership…I fully intend to take advantage of this. My goal, and I’m telling you this so that you can hold me accountable to it, is to be able to run ten miles by this time next year. Every year here in Flint we have this big 10 Mile road race–The Crim. I’ve walked a 5k, and my long term goal is running the 10 Mile. So, on the days I have class I will be going down to school a few hours early to start working out. If anyone knows of a good plan for beginning runners I would love to have your advice!!

3.) I have a new major. I am now a Clinical Psychology major. This means that my ultimate goal is to become a Therapist…more specifically a Christian Counselor. I have a long road ahead of me, but I’m trusting that God will provide, and carry me through!

4.) My class for this semester is Abnormal Psychology, and I’m really looking forward to it. This class is meant to take us inside the mind and how it works. We will be covering all of the disorders, syndromes, and malfunctions…what causes them, how the work, and how to treat them. We will also begin taking a look a research practices, statistical research, and case studies….I’m so excited for this class.

5.) I went back to school shopping today….new jeans, and some adorable leopard print flats. I’ve NEVER owned anything that was leopard print, so this is a bit of a leap for my and my wardrobe…I’ve had these shoes for about two hours, and I haven’t taken them off….I think we have a winner!!

6.) URGENT PRAYER REQUEST!!! Please pray for a family from our church. The grandfather of a friend of mine walked away from the senior living apartments where he has been living. He suffered a stroke around Easter time, but seems to have been in good health since then. They believe that he is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s. He has been missing for almost 72 hours now. Search and rescue teams have been working tirelessly to find him, but his family is frantic. Please please pray that he is safe, that he is found, and that all will be well. Thank you so much.

7.) As always, I’m linking up with Jen and the others at Conversion Diary….go check it out!!

7 Quick Takes: VBS Hangover

Happy Saturday everyone! I’m a day late with my post but I’m recovering from VBS! It was a fantastic week, I had a great time with the kids, and am already planning for next year, but here are a few highlights from the week…..

1.) I was in charge of Bible Memory for the week. The kids learned 5 verses over the course of four days.

a.) “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us that we should be called children of God.”
                       1 John 3:1a

b.) “Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people.”  Jeremiah 7:23a

c.) “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone the new has come.”
                     2 Corinthians 5:17

d.) “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 2:5

e.) “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him
will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

Each child got a card like this to take home at the end of each night so that they could work on memorizing their verses for the week.
2.) If they could come back the next night and tell me their Bible verse they got…….
CANDY!! Wow, could these kids just devour the candy….but they were learning the Bible verses, and  retaining it! Did I bribe them….technically yes…..were they learning?? Absolutely! By the end of the week each of the hundred and twenty children went home with at least one piece of candy because they learned a Bible verse! I was so proud of those kids!
3.) Bible memory was done in the same time frame as snack, so of course Miss Megan just had to indulge on the night of root beer floats.
The kids you see in this picture? This was our (kindergartners going into the) first grade group. As far as memorization goes, they did the best job. Every child in this group was able to recite EVERY verse to me by the end of the week! My heart soared when I finished up with this group on the last night!
The theme for the week was Tumbleweed Gulch….it was a western theme. No western would be complete without a campfire right? So we employed the use of the inflatable campfire!
5.) VBS was over on Thursday night, dad had the day off on Friday so mom decided to go blueberry picking! We went out as a family, and came home with close to eight pounds of berries.
6.) The bushes were just absolutely loaded down with berries, peaches are coming in, and apples will be ready to pick by the first of September! I love the orchards here in Michigan, and can’t wait to go out apple picking in just a few short weeks…..
7.) As always I will be adding my link with everyone else’s over at Conversion Diary so make sure to head on over and check them out!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

7 Quick Takes: 8/9/13

Happy Friday! I don’t really have much of consequence to share with you today….it was a pretty boring week…but, lets see what I can come up with, here goes nothin’

1.) There was an accident just recently at our church campgrounds; a young boy (about 4 yrs. old) ended up being air lifted to University of Michigan Children’s Hospital. He is in ICU. Please pray for him and his family!

2.) It has been almost two months now and I am still having some pretty bad digestive issues….and I can’t seem to find a solution. I’m very reluctant to go see a doctor, but I’m thinking right now that may be my only choice…..(please note that if a doctor or nurse happens to read this and might be willing to answer a few questions, please send me an e-mail!!!). Okay, that will be the last time I beg for help, I promise!!

3.) We went bluebe5.)rry picking this week, but not one of us thought to take our phones and get some pictures……I will however try to post pictures of the pie, jars of jam, and maybe just a bowl of blueberries, because I know you are all just dying to see them right!?

4.) Our Vacation Bible School is starting up on Monday, please pray for our leadership, our workers, our Children’s Pastor (my dear ol’ dad!), and especially the kids that will be coming! Mom and I are doing snack and Bible memory, Dad is in charge, and we are hoping to have at least a hundred kids (but more would be awesome!). Please pray that lives will be  changed during this awesome week!

5.) I finished my quilt, but I’m not going to post pictures to this post. I’m going to give my quilt it’s own post later this week……this is because I have not been able to get any decent pictures of it yet, but I’m trying hard to get some decent ones! Look for a post coming soon!

6.) I am so looking forward to our family reunion tomorrow!! We only do this every two years, so it will be wonderful to see everyone! We have family coming in from out of state, new babies to love on, and lots of stories to tell and food to eat! It should be lots of fun!

7.) I’m linking up with Jennifer Fulwiler over at Conversion Diary as I do every Friday. Go check out all the other Quick Takes this week!!

A Whirlwind Weekend

Guys! I’m SO excited! I’m being featured today (on one of my very favorite blogs) Everyday Reading. Each weekend Janssen features a different blogger and their city! I look forward to these posts every week. I love traveling, and a lot of these have given great trips on where to eat, and where to travel in general. Janssen’s blog is one of my favorites. She always posts great recipes, book reviews, or craft ideas. I just happened to stumble across it one day via Pinterest (of course!) and now I’m totally hooked!

You can check out my Whirlwind Weekend in Frankenmuth, Michigan right here.

Janssen, if you happen to read this…Thank you so much! I just sent this off on a whim, thinking that you would get flooded with e-mails and not even see mine, thank you for allowing me to share not my hometown, but one of my very favorite day-trip locations with you and your readers!

7 Quick Takes; 8/2/13

I can’t believe that it’s August already! This summer just seems to have flown by!There hasn’t really been much going on around here lately, but I’ll try and get a few takes typed out….let’s see how this goes:

1.) Michigan has been unseasonably cold this week! So cold in fact, that there were a couple nights where I was curled up with heavy blankets, drinking hot chocolate! It was in the low to mid fifties a couple of nights, which I wouldn’t necessarily deem that to be cold (because, growing up in Michigan 50 isn’t cold….in fact 50 degrees in March, is down right tropical. The cooler weather was a very nice reprieve though from those few 90 degree days that we had. I did not enjoy those one bit!

2.) I got a check in the mail this week for the time I spent sitting at the courthouse while serving jury duty. It wasn’t very much, because I’m only a few miles from the courthouse, and I wasn’t there for very long so I used it to add to my personal library. I went and purchased books 5 and 6 of James Patterson’s Women’s Murder Club series. Those have been some of my favorite books to read, and if I have nothing going on, I can get through one in a week. They are captivating! I just can’t seem to put them down once I get started.

3.) On the day before grocery day we didn’t have a whole lot left in the house except for the basics, and few odds and ends. So I posted a recipe on Wednesday for my easy Jalapeno Chicken Nachos. They are so simple to make, and very, very tasty!

4.) **Warning** This take is about the mindless television that I choose to watch each Monday night. If you don’t want to read it….skip to number 5.
I am no a patient person, so about three weeks ago while watching the Bachelorette I decided to check out some spoilers just to see what might happen. I read the spoilers that said Des was going to end up with Brooks, that he proposed at the end and they all lived happily ever blah blah blah. SO, when he gave her this long, drawn out, awkward break up speech on Monday night I was stunned….and also a little uncomfortable. It was such an emotional moment, and so stinkin long! It took him a half an hour to basically  say “I’m just not that into you”. I mean, COME ON! It was the like a train wreck, you didn’t want to watch, but you couldn’t look away because it was just so awful…….
Okay, Bachelorette rant done…..if you made it this far, I applaud you!
5.) Please be sure to stop by the blog tomorrow morning! I am being featured tomorrow on Everyday Reading as part of Janssen’s Whirlwind Weekend series. I wrote about spending a Whirlwind Weekend in Frankenmuth Michigan. Stop by my blog or head over to Janssen’s to see what it is all about! I’m so excited, I always look forward to her Whirlwind Weekend posts, and now mine is one of them! Can’t wait to see it!
6.) I’m looking for a pattern for a quilted tote bag. I have lots of great fabrics left over from my quilt and I’d love to turn them into some sort of purse. If you have any suggestions for a pattern, let me know!
7.) I’m linking up with Jen like I always do, so head on over to Conversion Diary and check out all the other Quick Takes!
