7 Quick Takes: Birthday Edition

Hello and happy Friday to you all! I took last week off from Quick Takes in honor of Good Friday, you can find my posts from Holy Week here. I have a lot to do around the house to get ready for tonight so I’m just going to get right to the takes.

1.) I am turning 21 on Sunday. I can hardly believe it, but WOW time seems to just fly by! Tonight I’m having my family over for dinner and cupcakes. It’s not a huge deal to me to have a “birthday party” but mom and dad want to….

2.) I babysat for the first part of the week, and used some of the money I earned to purchase my own birthday presents…..much to the chagrin of my father : ) I got a board game I’ve had my eye on for a while; It’s called Pandemic, and it comes from the geniuses at Z-Man Games. This game is a co-operative game, meaning you win and you lose TOGETHER. We are a family of first borns (I’m an only, so it’s counts!) and we are incredibly competitive gamers. This is a really nice change of pace for the three of us, because it pretty much forces you to work together to work toward your end goal.

I also bought Rainbow Rowell’s Attachments. I’d read some great reviews of this one, and I couldn’t pass up the fact that it was a five dollar bargain book : )
3.) Mom and I finished watching season 2 of The BBC’s Robin Hood….oh my goodness, the end of that season is heart-breaking! I don’t even want to talk about it other than to say that this show is a must watch! It is very well done, the story lines are captivating, and the characters are engaging! I would highly recommend this show! Unfortunately it is no longer on BBC but the dvd’s are out there, and there is a chance that Netflix might have it as well! Go check it out, you won’t be disappointed……
4.) (I’m really struggling to come up with half-way decent takes to share today)
Oh, here we go…I have mentioned before that I’m writing again…well, The Block is gone (thank goodness) and I’m making some progress….I’ve decided to kill a character….It’s not easy, in fact….I haven’t actually done it yet. I just can’t bring myself to do it even though I know that this will bring me to the conclusion that I want. (I’m writing out of chronological order)
(if I write in chronological order, there is no conclusion in sight)
(in about a month this will all probably change again….)
5.) Books one and three are plotted out, and book one is moving along nicely. I’ve written an opening scene and a (sort of) concluding scene for book three….I have to be honest and tell you that I still don’t have any idea what I’m going to do for book two. I could just scrap it, and make book three book two but then there will be a MAJOR gap in my timeline. I’m still really struggling with this, and I honestly don’t know what to do! It’s been driving me nuts that I have a concept for one and three and not a single thing for two, well that’s not entirely true I have characters, well a character and her husband (who I haven’t been able to name…for months).
6.) That’s it for me today, like I said above, I have some things to do to get ready for family to come over for tonight…if you think about it, say a prayer for me okay! I’d really appreciate it!
7.) I’m linking up with Jen as always so make sure to check out the rest of this week’s Quick Takes.

7 Quick Takes: 10/11/13

I’m alive I promise!! It’s been almost two weeks since my last post, and I feel pretty bad about it….not sure why though….maybe it’s false guilt – but that is all beside the point…the point is I’m back to blogging, and I have a Quick Takes post ready for you, so here it is:

1.) I’m typing this as I’m standing in my kitchen waiting for a batch of Brown Sugar Maple Bars to bake, and listening to some music on my computer which reminds me of a blog post a friend of mine recently wrote all about the Soundtrack of a Story…..it was really good, you should check it out….I can wait…..

oh good, you’re back! Well, what did you think?! I love movies with strong soundtracks, in my own personal playlist I have Band of Brothers, The West Wing, The Hunger Games, John Williams (I didn’t want to list all the movies)….this is just a sample of what I listen to, but these are easily some of my favorites.

2.) I bought my Halloween costume for $10 this year. Or I bought the pieces of it rather. It is a “some assembly required” costume, the pieces of which came from my local Goodwill store, and with a little time spent on the sewing machine hopefully I will have a dress that resembles Snow White’s iconic gown…..

3.) I’m also eating butterscotch chips by the handful….but I don’t think you needed to know that.

4.) I finally watched Iron Man 3 last weekend and it was AMAZING!! I love Tony Stark, and I love Robert Downey Jr.. I love anything Marvel comes out with, and have learned to watch a movie to  the VERY VERY end, even past the credits……******SPOILERS AHEAD********

This made my nerdy heart extremely happy!!

AH!!! I know, I’m a nerd, but I LOVE IT!
5.) The bars are out of the oven, and I have a caramel frosting to make…I’ll be back!
6.) Caramel frosting is done….and insanely good! We are heading up to Frankenmuth tomorrow to do some shopping. We will hit up Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland, and a few other local stops. If you didn’t see it already, here is the post I did about Frankenmuth….It was featured on Janssen’s Everyday Reading.
7.) As always, I’m linking up with Jen and the others over at Conversion Diary. Make sure you read Jen’s post about the centipedes and scorpions. I live in Michigan, but still made it a point to check my bed and blankets before going to sleep the other night…..read this post, and you’ll understand why! After reading this, spiders aren’t looking too bad!!
Have an awesome weekend! GO BLUE!!

The Insomnia Strikes Back

I’m not going to lie….insomnia sucks! The last few nights, I’ve laid in bed staring at my ceiling unable to fall asleep….and on the rare occasion that I actually did fall asleep, I couldn’t stay asleep. I don’t know what is causing this, or why it is so sporadic when it does happen.

It’s the weirdest thing. I haven’t changed my eating habits, or introduced any new foods. My night-time routine is always the same. Normally I fall asleep to music, but not even that helps when insomnia strikes. I tried reading, watching re-runs of television shows on the iPad hoping and praying that something would put me to sleep. I tried completely clearing my mind, and not thinking about anything at all (which is nearly impossible for me.)

Finally, last night I was able to get a full eight hours of sleep, but that doesn’t happen very consistently. It gets really frustrating, because I have no idea what causes this, why it comes on the way it does.

Sorry for the random, rambling post….if anyone has any kind of advice for dealing with insomnia I’m open to it!

p.s. Please pray that I’m able to fall asleep tonight, and stay asleep! Thanks!
