Journey to Jesus – The Triumphal Entry

On Saturday our church hosted it’s first annual Easter EGGstravaganza. When the children and their families entered the gym, they started on a Journey for Jesus. Their Journey began with Palm Sunday and the triumphal entry. From there they traveled along (from room to room) hearing the story of Jesus. From the Triumphal entry they went to The Last Supper, The Garden of Gethsemane, The Cross, The Tomb, and The ABC’s of salvation. I was at the tomb. I got to tell the children and their families that Jesus was risen from the dead, the tomb was empty, He is alive just as he said! When they completed their Journey they exited into an Easter carnival full of games, crafts, and lots and lots…I mean LOTS of candy!

With this week being Holy Week (if you’ve been reading my blog for a while you know this is my favorite week) I’d like to recount the Journey to find Jesus with you.

I’m a day late with this one, but here it is anyway!

Palm Sunday – The Triumphal Entry

This is where Jesus’ final week began. He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey as crowds of people greeted him, waving palm branches and shouting “Hosanna in the highest! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”

New International Version (NIV)Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King21 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives,<span class="crossreference" style="font-weight: bold; vertical-align: top;" value="(C)”> Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”This took place to fulfill<span class="crossreference" style="font-weight: bold; vertical-align: top;" value="(D)”> what was spoken through the prophet:“Say to Daughter Zion,    ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey,    and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”<span class="footnote" style="font-weight: bold; vertical-align: top;" value="[a]”>[a]<span class="crossreference" style="font-weight: bold; vertical-align: top;" value="(E)”>The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. A very large crowd spread their cloaks<span class="crossreference" style="font-weight: bold; vertical-align: top;" value="(F)”> on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,“Hosanna<span class="footnote" style="font-weight: bold; vertical-align: top;" value="[b]”>[b] to the Son of David!”“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”<span class="footnote" style="font-weight: bold; vertical-align: top;" value="[c]”>[c]“Hosanna<span class="footnote" style="font-weight: bold; vertical-align: top;" value="[d]”>[d] in the highest heaven!”

Blessings,
Megan
