7 Quick Takes: 2/28/14

Tomorrow is March 1st…you’d never know it by looking out my window at the snow, but spring is (finally) in its way! Today is Friday so that means it’s time for another Quick Takes post!

1.) I joined Jen’s 7 in 7 challenge and have actually done a good job keeping up with it each day; you can check out the list of other bloggers that are doing the challenge here.

2.) Spring training has begun, baseball alerts are coming to my phone every day, and opening day is at the end of March….hopefully the snow will be gone by then.

3.) Speaking of snow Michigan is supposed to be getting even more this weekend and at this point we have nowhere to put it. We have drifts that can be measured in feet, and a driveway that gets narrower and narrower each time we shovel…guys, if it snows again I might lose my mind!!

4.) My friend Britt lent me DVDs of The BBC series Robin Hood….I’m hooked! What an awesome show!!

5.) I’m sorry for the brevity of my takes today but I’m writing this post from my phone while sitting down and catching up on Scandal. My grandmother is on her way over here for dinner, we’ve cleaned, baked, set the table, and dinner is in the oven. I’m making this an incredibly quick Quick Takes because she’ll be here in about an hour.

6.) I haven’t mentioned it yet, but read several recaps and wrap up posts…Downton Abbey was great this season! I’m sad to see another season end but it gives me something to look forward to for next season.

7.) Once again, I’m sorry for the brevity…I’m linked up at Conversion Diary as always. Head over there for more Quick Takes!

Have a great weekend!

Blessings,
Megan

7 Quick Takes: The one in which, Things get back to normal

…or as close to normal as possible. I realized that I haven’t posted in a month….I also realize that most people won’t have noticed that, and that’s totally okay with me, but I need to keep up my writing/blogging…..so,  Okay, enough off topic talk, I’m back and it’s Friday, and that means Quick Takes so let’s get to it…….

1.) The Holidays are over…and have been for a while…I’m back to work and school, and I’m finally getting back into some sort of a routine. I’ve enjoyed my time off, plus the extra time off that I got due to an ice storm, and subsequent snow storm that shut down our county for a couple of days. It’s nice to finally get back into the swing of things; going back to school albeit on-line, back to work, and normal daily activities!

2.) Last year I began the transfer process for changing colleges and changing my major, I completed my first semester at the new school, and on Monday began the winter semester. All of my credits transferred except for Developmental Psychology which I’m retaking this semester on-line.

3.) For Christmas I surprised my dad with all six seasons of The Big Bang Theory on DVD. Between Christmas, New Year, and all the time stuck in the house due to snow, we finished all of them!! Dad was pretty happy on Christmas morning, and it kind of made my day….that and the look on mom’s face when she opened the box of new pots and pans from dad! It was a great day all around!

4.) I used a combination of Christmas and babysitting money to buy myself some books. I bought The Hobbit and Mary Poppins, She Wrote. I’ve started The Hobbit, and I am so looking forward to starting Mary Poppins, She Wrote before going to see Saving Mr. Banks!

5.) I talked a bit about what I was looking forward to this (now) past Holiday season and one of those things was the Doctor Who Christmas special. It did not disappoint! I was surprised to see the Doctor age so much throughout the episode, but was entirely pleased with how they did the whole thing! It was very well done and I can’t wait to see Peter Capaldi play the Doctor!

6.) Downton Abbey is back….and boy did the first episode deliver! I can’t wait to see what is in store for the rest of the season! I was so sad for Mary at the beginning but after a good cry with Carson she was back in a fighting spirit and this is looking like it will be a great season!

7.) I couldn’t think of anything for number seven so….here.

Sherlock series 3 premiers on January 19th and I am waiting with great anticipation!

As always, I’m linked up with Jen!

7 Quick Takes: 2/22/13

Joining up with Jen at Conversion Diary for yet another edition of Quick Takes….I’m going to get right to it because I have to be at work soon, so….away we go!

1.) I am heartbroken after the end of Downton Abbey Sunday night. I won’t give anything away I promise….I just want to let you know that I’m quite upset after what took place…..

2.) Also on Sunday nights, I watch Food Network’s Worst Cooks in America and it makes me so, so, so grateful for the fact that my mom taught me to cook at a young age. I LOVE to be in the kitchen cooking so needless to say this is one show that I hope never to be on.

3.) Sticking to the TV theme that I inadvertently created…in March I will once again be trying my hand at the Jeopardy College test…… what could possibly go wrong?!

4.) Saturday I am heading back to my old high school to hear the bands play in Michigan State Band and Orchestra Festival. I always loved festival as a student, but I’m pretty excited to sit in the audience for the whole process. From the stage performance to the sight reading room…it should be fun to be on the other side of things for once!

5.) I stopped scrapbooking after high school, when we had to do the mandatory (read: ridiculous) senior scrapbook. I already had many, many, many scrapbooks that I had done on my own and when I was done with the senior book I gave away a lot of my supplies, and just started storing my photos in boxes….that is, until I discovered the Smash Book via Pinterest. The link is to a blog from a woman who will tell you the best ways to use the book and it’s pretty much fool proof!

6.) I picked up a Smash Book for myself last week and can’t wait to use it while on vacation this year! We will be heading to Disney World in Orlando! I was seven years old the last time, and I don’t remember a lot about the trip, and I’m looking forward to ten days in the sun, with my family, and just relaxing! There is one souvenir that I am looking for, and maybe one of you can help me…..

via Pinterest…links to generic tumblr with no added info
we still have a LOOOOOOOOONG time to plan our trip, and I’m not entirely sure yet where we may be going as far as Disney Parks, but I am so excited for this trip with my family!
7.) Let me leave you with a this……
Our choir and orchestra did this song on Sunday morning, and each and every time I play it I get to a point where I have to just put my horn down, and bask in the glory of the Holy Spirit. This is Keith and Kristin Getty’s, The Power of The Cross….enjoy!

Mid-week ranting

Let me apologize ahead of time for the emotions that I may display in this post.

I have never been a fan of season finales of any of my favorite TV shows, it has nothing to do with the show itself really….it’s just me. There is something about ending a season with something blowing up, or crashing, or someone dying that brings out the worst in me. I promise I won’t give any spoilers, but the season finale of Downton Abbey broke my heart. I was a wreck, and I have a beef with TV writers who love to just keep us hanging until the show comes back.

With Downton, I have a feeling of where it might pick back up for season four, but there are other shows that give us a cliff hanger ending, and when the show comes back, a major character has been killed off (Body of Proof, on ABC). I’m the same way with book series’ , cliff hangers make me crazy when I know how long I’ll be waiting for the next book to be release. I get so invested In my books, and the lives of the characters…..maybe this is just me and my opinion, but I am not a fan of intense endings, but they do leave me wanting more….hmmmm, maybe they are good for something!

Let me know what you think….any shows or books you love with crazy cliff hangers? What did you think about Downton? Any books or shows that you would recommend? I’d love to know your thoughts!

Blessings,

Megan
