7 Quick Takes: The one in which, Things get back to normal

…or as close to normal as possible. I realized that I haven’t posted in a month….I also realize that most people won’t have noticed that, and that’s totally okay with me, but I need to keep up my writing/blogging…..so,  Okay, enough off topic talk, I’m back and it’s Friday, and that means Quick Takes so let’s get to it…….

1.) The Holidays are over…and have been for a while…I’m back to work and school, and I’m finally getting back into some sort of a routine. I’ve enjoyed my time off, plus the extra time off that I got due to an ice storm, and subsequent snow storm that shut down our county for a couple of days. It’s nice to finally get back into the swing of things; going back to school albeit on-line, back to work, and normal daily activities!

2.) Last year I began the transfer process for changing colleges and changing my major, I completed my first semester at the new school, and on Monday began the winter semester. All of my credits transferred except for Developmental Psychology which I’m retaking this semester on-line.

3.) For Christmas I surprised my dad with all six seasons of The Big Bang Theory on DVD. Between Christmas, New Year, and all the time stuck in the house due to snow, we finished all of them!! Dad was pretty happy on Christmas morning, and it kind of made my day….that and the look on mom’s face when she opened the box of new pots and pans from dad! It was a great day all around!

4.) I used a combination of Christmas and babysitting money to buy myself some books. I bought The Hobbit and Mary Poppins, She Wrote. I’ve started The Hobbit, and I am so looking forward to starting Mary Poppins, She Wrote before going to see Saving Mr. Banks!

5.) I talked a bit about what I was looking forward to this (now) past Holiday season and one of those things was the Doctor Who Christmas special. It did not disappoint! I was surprised to see the Doctor age so much throughout the episode, but was entirely pleased with how they did the whole thing! It was very well done and I can’t wait to see Peter Capaldi play the Doctor!

6.) Downton Abbey is back….and boy did the first episode deliver! I can’t wait to see what is in store for the rest of the season! I was so sad for Mary at the beginning but after a good cry with Carson she was back in a fighting spirit and this is looking like it will be a great season!

7.) I couldn’t think of anything for number seven so….here.

7 Quick Takes: About Sound of Music Live!, Dead week, and Children’s Musicals

Happy Friday (though, it may be Saturday by the time I publish this)! I hope you all had a great week! I’m just going to get to the takes today and hopefully I’ll be back to a regular posting schedule when things settle down a bit here…….so January!

1.) The Sound of Music Live was amazing! That is my opinion and here are a few things I’d like to clear up:
Yes, Julie Andrews made the role of Maria famous, but she was not the original Maria. Carrie Underwood did the role justice! The move was adapted from the Broadway show, what was broadcast live to us was a version of the Broadway show NOT the movie. There was no editing, sound mixing, or scene cuts….it was LIVE! That is such and undertaking and on national television to boot! Again I say, it was AMAZING, The Sound of Music will forever be one of My Favorite Things!

2.) It’s dead week….that is, the week before finals…need I say more? I’m running on coffee, coffee, and more coffee.

3.) Saturday is the dress rehearsal for our children’s musical, The Great Christmas Giveaway! I am playing the adult lead in the show….I haven’t done anything like this since about the sixth grade, it’s been fun to jump back into it again.

4.) Sunday we are performing…..months of work all coming down to one performance! I have really enjoyed working with these amazing kids, and being able to present the story of Christmas to the congregation is such an awesome opportunity!

5.) Right now, as I type, there are 18 days until Christmas! 18!! Is it just me or did November and December just fly right on by!?!

6.) My brain is fried, so instead of a 6th take I’m just going to show you a picture….this is me 20 years ago celebrating my first Christmas

7.) I’m linking up with Jen like always! Head on over to check out Takes that are decidedly much better than mine!
Have an awesome weekend!
Merry Christmas!

Hand Painted Shoes

I’ve made no secret of the fact that I’m a bit of a nerd…..well, when I saw this pin on Pinterest I knew I had to find a way to do this myself…..

The Original Pin:
I figured these would be pretty easy to do myself, and pretty cheap right? I ended up buying white canvas slip on shoes for ninety nine cents at Goodwill, blue spray paint and paint pens at Joanne’s.

I stuffed the shoes with newspaper and took them outside to spray paint..

Here’s a tip: If you need to spray paint something in October….in Michigan……try and pick a day that isn’t windy and snowy…..I didn’t know that is was going to snow, and thankfully it wasn’t until I was done with the painting but the wind was still a force to be reckoned with!

TARDIS Blue! All done with the spray paint and now I have to let these DRY COMPLETELY!
Once they were dry I go to work on the details. I started out using acrylics just to make these pop a little more

Here is what I did with the acrylics. While these areas were drying I used a brown paint pen to paint on a suit jacket  on each shoe…………
Now that everything was dry, I used paint pens to add details to the painted areas….windows, the Police Call Box sign, ties…..
To add a little more character, I added quotes to each side of the shoes…….

“We’re all stories in the end…..Just make it a good one, eh?”
“Fantastic”-The Ninth Doctor’s catch phrase. He is the reason I fell in love with the show. Most people will tell you that David Tennant is their favorite Doctor and he is wonderful but I feel in love with Nine, and that’s how I got hooked on the show……
Speaking of David Tennant,
People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but *actually* from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint – it’s more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly… time-y wimey… stuff. via IMDB
….And Matt Smith….
“Come along Pond!”
I didn’t finish my Halloween costume in time for Halloween, so I just wore these. I would have loved to dress up as one of the companions….but these were a close second!

I realize now that the ties are not quite proportional to the “jackets” but that would be a really easy fix. So, these are incredibly easy, cheap, and quite cute once you get them done! Don’t be afraid to show your nerdy side!!

Megan
