7 Quick Takes: The one in which, Things get back to normal

…or as close to normal as possible. I realized that I haven’t posted in a month….I also realize that most people won’t have noticed that, and that’s totally okay with me, but I need to keep up my writing/blogging…..so,  Okay, enough off topic talk, I’m back and it’s Friday, and that means Quick Takes so let’s get to it…….

1.) The Holidays are over…and have been for a while…I’m back to work and school, and I’m finally getting back into some sort of a routine. I’ve enjoyed my time off, plus the extra time off that I got due to an ice storm, and subsequent snow storm that shut down our county for a couple of days. It’s nice to finally get back into the swing of things; going back to school albeit on-line, back to work, and normal daily activities!

2.) Last year I began the transfer process for changing colleges and changing my major, I completed my first semester at the new school, and on Monday began the winter semester. All of my credits transferred except for Developmental Psychology which I’m retaking this semester on-line.

3.) For Christmas I surprised my dad with all six seasons of The Big Bang Theory on DVD. Between Christmas, New Year, and all the time stuck in the house due to snow, we finished all of them!! Dad was pretty happy on Christmas morning, and it kind of made my day….that and the look on mom’s face when she opened the box of new pots and pans from dad! It was a great day all around!

4.) I used a combination of Christmas and babysitting money to buy myself some books. I bought The Hobbit and Mary Poppins, She Wrote. I’ve started The Hobbit, and I am so looking forward to starting Mary Poppins, She Wrote before going to see Saving Mr. Banks!

5.) I talked a bit about what I was looking forward to this (now) past Holiday season and one of those things was the Doctor Who Christmas special. It did not disappoint! I was surprised to see the Doctor age so much throughout the episode, but was entirely pleased with how they did the whole thing! It was very well done and I can’t wait to see Peter Capaldi play the Doctor!

6.) Downton Abbey is back….and boy did the first episode deliver! I can’t wait to see what is in store for the rest of the season! I was so sad for Mary at the beginning but after a good cry with Carson she was back in a fighting spirit and this is looking like it will be a great season!

7.) I couldn’t think of anything for number seven so….here.

7 Quick Takes: Favorite Christmas Movies Edition

Happy Friday! I was inspired this week by Shay at Mix and Match Family, and her post about her top 10 favorite Christmas movies.  So, this week for my quick takes I will be giving you my top 10 Christmas movies….(or, movies to watch at Christmas, some may not necessarily be Christmas-y.)

7.) Numbers 10, 9, 8, and 7…..

                  10.) Elf – I like it, but I don’t love it. I usually only watch it once a season……

9.) The Sound of Music – Not technically a Christmas movie but one that I always watch right                             around Christmas. The Sound of Music is one of my all time favorite movies!

8.) The Santa Clause – The first in the series. This has always been one of my favorite                                       movies,
7.) Christmas Vacation – I watched this for the first time last year. I don’t think I have ever,                                EVER laughed as much as I did while watching this movie!

6.) Mary Poppins – I know that this one isn’t a Christmas movie either, but it is another one that we watch every year right around Christmas. Mary Poppins is one of my favorite Disney Movies (I might just do a post on those too!). I love the music, the story, all of it!

5.) The Santa Clause Two – I LOVE this movie! The story in this one is so fun! I just really enjoy how they did the sequel to an already awesome movie….what you won’t see on this list is The Santa Clause 3. I did not like that one at all…

4.) The Christmas Shoes – I cry every time. It is such a heart wrenching story but it is so so good! (and it has Rob Lowe in it, which doesn’t hurt )

3.) Pride & Prejudice – Also not Christmas….I watch it each year around holiday time. I love this one so much. I don’t know if it needs much explanation, but how can you not love Darcy and Lizzie!?

2.) The Christmas Card – A soldier receives a Christmas card while over seas. Soldier comes back to the states, moves to a small town and unknowingly meets, and falls in love with the woman who sent him the card. I cannot say enough good things about this one!

1.) White Christmas – Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera Ellen. This is without a doubt my most favorite Christmas movie!

This does not mean that I don’t watch any other Christmas movies, I do but this list would be far too long if I were to list every movie I watch at Christmas. These are just some of my most favorites!

What is your favorite Christmas movie? Any that you don’t like? Please share, I love to hear from you guys!

As always I’m linking up with Jen for 7 Quick Takes!!

Pintester Movement: Ho Ho Ho Edition

I love participating in the Pintester Movement….it makes me have to go through all 2000+ pins on my boards and find some that I actually have to do. I have participated now for the third time (First, Second) and this one is probably definitely a cop out  the easiest one I have done.

A graduation tassel ornament, via Sew Many Ways . I loved this idea when I saw it because I wanted to save my tassel but hanging it from the rear view mirror didn’t work for me, throwing it on a bookshelf was one more thing to dust around, and I didn’t want it laying around anymore. So…….I headed to a local discount store and came across some clear Christmas bulbs, but they also happened to have a bit of a design….I wasn’t about to let that stop me, so I grabbed the one with the M monogrammed on it…..

A green M and a bunch of red polka dots……my school colors were blue and grey……yeah, this should work out well…..
I removed the pin, and the little metal cap….
Then, I dropped in the tassel….easy peasy…..
I pulled the long loop up through the cap, replaced the pin with the little red bow, and hung it up somewhere in my room to take the picture….
Hanging from my graduation cap, and honors cords…..I graduated in 2011, I need to do something with these……
Okay, so it’s nothing special. It was crazy easy, the colors clash (I’m not even going to pretend they don’t. Will I hang it on my tree? Yes. Will I hang it where people will be able to see it? Maybe not….it might find it’s way to the back of the tree where nobody looks. Yep, that sounds like a plan!
Merry Christmas!!

Happy Holidays!!

Merry Holidays?!
Happy Christmas?!
Love to you all for the Holidays,

7 Quick Takes: 12/28/12

So here we are, another Friday…another installment of Quick Takes. I will be joining Jen at Conversion Diary. So, without further ado… Quick Takes:

1.) On Sunday our church choir went to Crossroads Village; a park here in Michigan, that transports you back in time to old grist mills, one room school houses, and steam locomotives. Our choir sings in the small wooden church, that is still heated by wood stove, and we sang for a crowd that filled the eight rows of pews, all of the standing room, and wound out the door into the small courtyard. I love to wander thought the general store, and just see the town…in the winter, and decorated for Christmas, it’s like a different time….a simpler time… I LOVE it!!!

2.) Ten years (or so) ago, we moved my great grandma into a new apartment, when we did my dad inherited her box of 8mm films….lots and lots, and LOTS of them. So, for Christmas we had them converted to DVD’s for dad, his brother and sister, and my grandma. We were all together on Christmas morning, and after these were opened, we watches them. There was no sound, just some stock music in the background, but we laughed and cried, and laughed till we cried! Never imy life have I laughed like that. It was so fun to see dad and his brother and sister watching these, seeing them as kids, with their dad and mom. It was evemore fun for my cousins and I to see our prents at that age…and just how much we take after them!
3.) I have been enjoying my Christmas gifts these past few days, especially my teapot,  there is nothing better than a good cup of tea. I love brewing loose leaf, so I love that the teapot came with multiple pouches of loose tea. I have ver much been enjoying chinese green tea, with a little honey and lemon, you have the perfect cup of tea!

4.) I have just started reading Mr. Penumbra’s 24 Hour Bookstore, so far I am not far enough through it yet to really say much, but check back in a few weeks for my review of what is turning out to be a very intriguing book.

5.) Working two days this week, and heading up to Frankenmuth this weekend. Frankenmuth, Michigan ( as I have told you before), is a piece of Germany, in northern Michigan. We will be heading up for some post Christmas shopping, and lunch as a family before we start back to work and school next week. I’m looking forward to some more family time.

6.) The homemade Christmas gifts were a hit, and I am so glad.the calluses, pricked fingers, and nights of staying up until three in the morning were totally worth it!

7.) Today, I am spending the day with my cousin. We will spend the day watching Disney Princess movies, making homemade pizzas, and playing board games…. A girls day, and I am so excited!
I hope you all have a great, relaxing weekend.

Christmas Traditions

For today’s post I am joining Janssen, Landen, and Merrick for: Christmas Traditions….check out theirs, or, if that is how you found me, thanks for stopping by!

It has been tradition in my family, that on Christmas Eve mom kicks dad and I out of the house….

Me and Mom.

Now, it’s not what it sounds like. Mom gets us out of the house so that she can wrap gifts, and do some last minute food prep. While mom has the house to herself, dad and I go out to the mall…not for any shopping, but for coffee.

Every year for as long as I can remember, dad and I go out early on Christmas Eve and walk the mall. As a young girl he would buy me a hot chocolate, and himself a coffee, and we would walk the mall and just watch people. Men in a hurry for that one last thing, women looking frazzled, kids getting their wishes to Santa right at the last minute. I love it! Now we go, and each of us get a coffee, and we walk, and talk, and laugh with each other. It’s a chance for my dad and I to hang out, and create memories…..when dad and I come home, we wrap mom’s presents. At night we have a big Italian dinner; lasagna, salad, bread- then we head to church for the candlelight service. When service is over, we go out for dessert, then we’re home for the night. Every year it’s the same, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Me and Dad

I have so many wonderful Christmas memories with my family, and I look forward to many more to come!

Merry Christmas!
