7 Quick Takes: Favorite Christmas Movies Edition

Happy Friday! I was inspired this week by Shay at Mix and Match Family, and her post about her top 10 favorite Christmas movies.  So, this week for my quick takes I will be giving you my top 10 Christmas movies….(or, movies to watch at Christmas, some may not necessarily be Christmas-y.)

7.) Numbers 10, 9, 8, and 7…..

                  10.) Elf – I like it, but I don’t love it. I usually only watch it once a season……

9.) The Sound of Music – Not technically a Christmas movie but one that I always watch right                             around Christmas. The Sound of Music is one of my all time favorite movies!

8.) The Santa Clause – The first in the series. This has always been one of my favorite                                       movies,
7.) Christmas Vacation – I watched this for the first time last year. I don’t think I have ever,                                EVER laughed as much as I did while watching this movie!

6.) Mary Poppins – I know that this one isn’t a Christmas movie either, but it is another one that we watch every year right around Christmas. Mary Poppins is one of my favorite Disney Movies (I might just do a post on those too!). I love the music, the story, all of it!

5.) The Santa Clause Two – I LOVE this movie! The story in this one is so fun! I just really enjoy how they did the sequel to an already awesome movie….what you won’t see on this list is The Santa Clause 3. I did not like that one at all…

4.) The Christmas Shoes – I cry every time. It is such a heart wrenching story but it is so so good! (and it has Rob Lowe in it, which doesn’t hurt )

3.) Pride & Prejudice – Also not Christmas….I watch it each year around holiday time. I love this one so much. I don’t know if it needs much explanation, but how can you not love Darcy and Lizzie!?

2.) The Christmas Card – A soldier receives a Christmas card while over seas. Soldier comes back to the states, moves to a small town and unknowingly meets, and falls in love with the woman who sent him the card. I cannot say enough good things about this one!

1.) White Christmas – Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera Ellen. This is without a doubt my most favorite Christmas movie!

This does not mean that I don’t watch any other Christmas movies, I do but this list would be far too long if I were to list every movie I watch at Christmas. These are just some of my most favorites!

What is your favorite Christmas movie? Any that you don’t like? Please share, I love to hear from you guys!

As always I’m linking up with Jen for 7 Quick Takes!!

Pintester Movement: Ho Ho Ho Edition

I love participating in the Pintester Movement….it makes me have to go through all 2000+ pins on my boards and find some that I actually have to do. I have participated now for the third time (First, Second) and this one is probably definitely a cop out  the easiest one I have done.

Via: Sew Many Ways

A graduation tassel ornament, via Sew Many Ways . I loved this idea when I saw it because I wanted to save my tassel but hanging it from the rear view mirror didn’t work for me, throwing it on a bookshelf was one more thing to dust around, and I didn’t want it laying around anymore. So…….I headed to a local discount store and came across some clear Christmas bulbs, but they also happened to have a bit of a design….I wasn’t about to let that stop me, so I grabbed the one with the M monogrammed on it…..

A green M and a bunch of red polka dots……my school colors were blue and grey……yeah, this should work out well…..
I removed the pin, and the little metal cap….
Then, I dropped in the tassel….easy peasy…..
I pulled the long loop up through the cap, replaced the pin with the little red bow, and hung it up somewhere in my room to take the picture….
Hanging from my graduation cap, and honors cords…..I graduated in 2011, I need to do something with these……
Okay, so it’s nothing special. It was crazy easy, the colors clash (I’m not even going to pretend they don’t. Will I hang it on my tree? Yes. Will I hang it where people will be able to see it? Maybe not….it might find it’s way to the back of the tree where nobody looks. Yep, that sounds like a plan!
Merry Christmas!!

Happy Holidays!!

Merry Holidays?!
Happy Christmas?!
Love to you all for the Holidays,
Blessings,

Seven Quick Takes: 11/15/13

Hello all! In addition to my usual Quick Takes post today, I have also posted a Pintester Movement post so make sure you check that out as well……you can find that RIGHT HERE. Now that I’m done with my self promotion let’s get on to a Holiday Edition of Quick Takes…..Holiday? You may be asking…..yes, Holiday!

1.) I love the Holiday season….Thanksgiving, Christmas, snow, the lights, the music, hot cocoa, candy canes, baking cookies, wrapping and giving gifts, turkey, mashed potatoes…..I could go on, but I won’t. I think you get the idea….I love the Holidays!

2.) This Holiday season I’m also looking forward to the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special….I’m a nerd, this should not be news to you…..I have gotten completely hooked on Doctor Who and the thought of David Tennant coming back makes me pretty happy!

3.) I’ve been playing Christmas music since Halloween, the tree and lights will go up on Black Friday, and we will be watching Band of Brothers like we do every years while we put up the decorations. It is a tradition that we started a few years ago, and we can get through the whole series in a weekend so it just kind of works.

4.) Also in December (and, I know this has nothing to do with the Holidays, it’s just something I’m really looking forward to) The Hobbitt: Desolation of Smaug comes out! I am can’t wait to go see this one with my family!

5.) We are gearing up for the Children’s Christmas musical, and our Choir and Orchestra concert in just a few weeks and they are going to be so much fun. As soon as the director can find me a husband someone to play my character’s husband I will be able to start rehearsing with the kids, and I am so excited!

6.) I volunteered to bring a sweet treat to my next book club meeting, and I’m looking for some kind of coffee cake, or brownie, or a bar of some kind to take. I’ve been scanning Pinterest (not that I really needed a reason to do that) and have come up with a few ideas but I was wondering if you had any tried and trues recipes that you use, anything that is your favorite, or that you just want to share!

7.) As I always do, I’m linking up with Jen at Conversion Diary. Go check out all of the other Quick Takes, and (*Warning* more self promotion ahead….remember to check out my Pintester Movement post)!

Bonus # 8.) Check out these hand painted shoes I posted about last week…you won’t regret it!

Blessings for warm and Happy Holidays!

Megan

Hand Painted Shoes

I’ve made no secret of the fact that I’m a bit of a nerd…..well, when I saw this pin on Pinterest I knew I had to find a way to do this myself…..

The Original Pin:
I figured these would be pretty easy to do myself, and pretty cheap right? I ended up buying white canvas slip on shoes for ninety nine cents at Goodwill, blue spray paint and paint pens at Joanne’s.

I stuffed the shoes with newspaper and took them outside to spray paint..

Here’s a tip: If you need to spray paint something in October….in Michigan……try and pick a day that isn’t windy and snowy…..I didn’t know that is was going to snow, and thankfully it wasn’t until I was done with the painting but the wind was still a force to be reckoned with!

TARDIS Blue! All done with the spray paint and now I have to let these DRY COMPLETELY!
Once they were dry I go to work on the details. I started out using acrylics just to make these pop a little more

Here is what I did with the acrylics. While these areas were drying I used a brown paint pen to paint on a suit jacket  on each shoe…………
Now that everything was dry, I used paint pens to add details to the painted areas….windows, the Police Call Box sign, ties…..
To add a little more character, I added quotes to each side of the shoes…….

“We’re all stories in the end…..Just make it a good one, eh?”
“Fantastic”-The Ninth Doctor’s catch phrase. He is the reason I fell in love with the show. Most people will tell you that David Tennant is their favorite Doctor and he is wonderful but I feel in love with Nine, and that’s how I got hooked on the show……
Speaking of David Tennant,
People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but *actually* from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint – it’s more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly… time-y wimey… stuff. via IMDB
….And Matt Smith….
“Come along Pond!”
I didn’t finish my Halloween costume in time for Halloween, so I just wore these. I would have loved to dress up as one of the companions….but these were a close second!

I realize now that the ties are not quite proportional to the “jackets” but that would be a really easy fix. So, these are incredibly easy, cheap, and quite cute once you get them done! Don’t be afraid to show your nerdy side!!

Blessings,
Megan
