How early is TOO early?

I know it’s not October yet, but today we started rehearsing for Christmas! The church choir and orchestra did a run-through today of this year’s Christmas musical…normally I will start digging out my Christmas CD’s, and getting the playlist ready on my iPod after this rehearsal……but it is still September, what’s a girl to do?

I’m doing two separate Christmas concerts, with many required rehearsals: One with orchestra, and one that I’m singing in, I figure after the first rehearsal for Messiah in late October I will pull it all out and start slowly making the transition!

Christmas in my favorite holiday season, and I normally try to make it last as long as possible by starting to listen to Christmas music pretty early.

You tell me, How early is TOO early?

Blessings,

Cross Stitch Canvas Painting

So, I have been seeing this pinned all over Pinterest lately, and figured that if you can paint it as a mural on the wall, why not scale it down, and put it on canvas.
With that thought in mind, I grabbed a canvas and set to work.
I started out by drawing a grid on my canvas with a pencil and a ruler.
Then, using this existing cross stitch pattern that I dug out of my overflowing craft basket,

I started blocking it out on my grid, adding the dark lines that, if cross stitched, would be considered the back-stitching.

I changed up the color scheme from the original.
The original is a sunflower, that uses three different shades of yellow.
I mixed up three shades of pink, from dark to light, and followed the pattern.

Now it’s time for the back-stitching. Back-stitching when you cross stitch is meant to bring out the details in the stitch work. In the original painting because of the contrasting colors you can clearly see detail.

In mine, because the colors are SO similar I ended up doing the back-stitching.

The almost-but-not-quite-finished product. I’m going to finish it by painting my aunt’s name on the bottom in cross stitch script. This will likely be her Christmas gift this year.

It still needs to be cleaned up a bit, I achieved what I set out to do!

The Name

The name is a little funny I know, but there is a bit of a story here.

In my room I have a shelf, a built-in CORNER SHELF. This shelf holds lots of things; from books, to photos, to little mementos from family members. This “corner shelf” is a collection of many different items, that may or may not have anything in common with one another. I want this blog to be just that; a collection of anything and everything. From book recommendations, crafts, and recipes, to what I studied in my devotions this morning, or something funny someone said.

So here it is, the inaugural post on Meg’s Corner Shelf. Enjoy!

Here it is, The Corner Shelf. There are things on here that I love, some I can’t live without, and others that may have just ended up there…which just about sums up the purpose of this blog!
